Red Hot Woman: RIDE HARDER 2011 Design

This is our first self-promoting design that we will utilize to sell products such as t-shirts, posters, iPhone cases, and other similar things. At firs there were several ideas in my mind, but each time I ended up with a different design and I wasn’t quite sure which direction to go. It was more of “kustom kulture” style and I believe you will see style more often in the future as I will design more self promoting designs using unique monsters, motorcycles, cars, and stuff like that. I’m looking forward to designing more in the future and discovering my true art style. Right now, I’m just playing with ideas and working on different illustration styles so time will soon tell where my design skills will take me. I will add products with this design to different online shops so you can go to the “Shop” page and check out where all the online shops are. Enjoy!

Beach Beast 2011 Design

Thanks to the power of networking, SportsMX was referred by a real good friend of mine, Hui Zhang, for a project. I have worked for SportsMX occasionally in the past. The project consisted of creating a really cool design for the SportsMX website. In this project, I helped the client to create a unique and attractive design for Beach Beast 2011 (volleyball tournament). They planned to use the design on t-shirts, advertisements, and flyers, etc. This event is their first official annual tournament so the original design needed to be revamped and made into something unique. In the original design, there was a volleyball logo, but the key theme for the event was evident in their title…”Beast,” which was missing. In our redesign I made sure the capture the true identity of the event to help the client to attract more participants.

It was really important to the client that the design was represented by using “Beast” from the title. The words that came to mind were tough and extreme with California style. I designed several really cool cartoonish monsters that chomped the volleyball. The clients were pleased with the design and I believe it will help them to attract participants in the event and improve their event profit. It’s an easy design with a simple color theme and was pretty fascinating. In the end, I was in awe of the outcome. I imagine that adults and kids alike will love to wear their t-shirts with the revamped design. Which brings us to our next project! I really love doing this kind of stuff!

J.A.K. Photography: Brand Identity and Logo Design

Last week, Jamie, who I have known since kindergarten, decided that he is wanted to dive into photography and pursue his dream of a start-up photography business. That’s when he also decided that he would be in need of a logo design. We were discussing a name for his business and originally he came up with “Kitchen Photography” because his last name is Kitchen. However, after much discussion he decided that he didn’t want to send the message to his clients that “Kitchen Photography” only focused on food, restaurants and kitchen photos. Finally, after we discussed all the possibilities, he decided to use “J.A.K. Photography” to represent a business unique to him and to clearly articulate to his clients what type of service he provides. During the design process, I created a logo that really complimented the name of his new business. I created a simple and fun design using a variety of filigree, like a water splash and Victorian leaves along with a silhouette of a camera. We strongly believe this logo will be easily recognized and allow clients to learn the story of where it came from. We are both very pleased with how it looks and we know that the logo will brand his service in the future and we wish him a lot of luck!

Updated Aug 2011: After Jamie used his logo, he decided that he really wanted to add “Kitchen” in the logo design since lot of people thought that he should and because there is already some people operating under the “JAK Photography” name out there. Jamie wanted a name that was different and original so it’s now “J.A.Kitchen Photography.”

IASPAA Design

International Alpha Sigma Pi Alumni Association, non-profit organization wanted several designs to use on different products at cafepress.com. I created a few very simple but eye-catching designs for their use. One typography we used gave the group a college feeling since they are orginally founded at a University. Another one was more gothic using black and gold colors since their mascot is a cobra. These very simple designs gave them more choices for a variety of products.

Leaning House Fine Cigars Logo Design

Cats with their Cigars

Last Spring 2008, Leaning House Fine Cigars’ vision and concept was two cats leaning on a house. After the client saw our sketch and rough draft of the design, they decided that they wanted two different logo designs. One simple concept for embroidery on apparel and another design with more detail for a variety of purposes. The process was a great experience for them to understand how changing the colors from one to two colors to more than three colors could affect the designs and how they use the artwork in promotions.
